Medical School is like Eating Pancakes

I barely have time to think about how and what to post on here, or actually, time to think at all for that matter.
I don't get requests, but I realize some of you are getting here from the SGU website. That's great! fine.

So, what I want to say is that if you're thinking about medical school, remember this:

It doesn't matter how smart you are. What really matters is if you have self control, and a strong work ethic.  ADD definitely does not help. For me, and many others, someone walks in the room, you can't help but pause your studying to look up and see who it is. Imagine how much time is wasted when you're doing that every 5 minutes. And let's not forget facebook! Okay, but I digress...

Medical school is like being fed Pancakes. Each day, without fail, and you must.. repeat, MUST eat them all. In a way, you are being fed the thing you're good at (learning). What I mean is, all of us here are smart. It may not seem like it at times, but we are all intelligent people. That's why we are here. It is a volume game, that material isn't necessarily difficult. Some of us like to procrastinate though. So, maybe you aren't hungry at times, and that's when you start feeling the pressure when you've got to squeeze 1000 pancakes into your brain. Or maybe, you just want to eat something else, you get tired of pancakes. Understandable... but can you really risk your future career just because you are uncomfortable?

Anyway, I won't take credit for the metaphor, these guys have put together a decently entertaining video about what it is like to be in medical school.

So, if you're on the phone with the admissions office, or you reply to that acceptance letter, know what you're getting in to. You're saying yes to eating pancakes for the rest of your life, or... at least until you retire.
